![]() But this deeply unflattering characterization is rooted in the prejudiced and brilliantly persuasive opinions of eighteenth-century revolutionaries like Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson, who needed to make the king appear evil in order to achieve their own political aims. The best-known modern interpretation of him is Jonathan Groff's preening, spitting, and pompous take in Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway masterpiece. Most Americans dismiss George III as a buffoon-a heartless and terrible monarch with few, if any, redeeming qualities. The truth is much more nuanced and fascinating-and will completely change the way readers and historians view his reign and legacy. The last king of America, George III, has been ridiculed as a complete disaster who frittered away the colonies and went mad in his old age. ![]() ![]() ![]() From the New York Times bestselling author of Churchill and Napoleon ![]()

![]() Whoever has some familiarity with the art landscape – no need to be a genteel connoisseur for that – will suddenly find striking similarities and powerful correspondances at stake between Samorì’s works and the most iconic figures of Renaissance, Baroque and Mannerism painting alike. ![]() Their skin flake off and their limbs are so much vividly reminiscent of open sores that one can’t help but pause to scrutinize their suffering, with painstaking attention, even with a hint of dark pleasure, unsure as to whether heal them or let them agonize slowly. They might bear an air of familiarity and déjà-vu at first sight, yet they reveal their real haunting nature at a closer inspection. ![]() Vacillating between life and death, his macabre, liminal creations exist as remnants of an act of violence, of so to speak Erostratism, namely, the morbid drive to prolong oneself in time and become immortal through outrageous and irreversible acts. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also couldn't help comparing this book to Zevin's more recent trilogy (All These Things I've Done, which I HIGHLY recommend) which was longer and with more of a wow factor (because of the setting) that this book lacked. ![]() ![]() She is supposed to make mistakes - which I love, and makes the story more real - but there was a portion where I didn't feel or understand her motivation. My quip comes with the main character not always making decisions I agreed with. This book pretty much has it all - a great premise, thoroughly explored realistic characters and situations twists with maximum impact - with a bow of great narration on top! This book steers clear of the fantasy land that dominates many YA contemporaries, which I greatly appreciated because it allowed the author to more fully discuss what would happen to this character and those around her in a thought-provoking way. ![]() ![]() The pacing is good and there are few info dumps. There's as much action as any reader could want, varied and interesting magic, tight plotting from a good number of interesting points of view. There are plenty of emotional scenes and even though I could see the strings being pulled, I still got drawn in. I call the book fun, and it is, but that's not to diminish it in any way. who knew? I don't enjoy every popular book but I do generally find out that there's a good reason why they're popular.īrent Weeks is a great story teller and his writing is plenty strong enough to carry the load. As a reader subject to the same societal forces as the characters in the anime, we are lead to develop our own beliefs on the moral acts of the characters and judge them as we see fit. This blurred boundary presents the aforementioned moral ambiguity in humanity and encapsulates the reader. The use of right and wrong in this case is arbitrary in that they are stereotypical concepts applied by societal beliefs. From the very beginning, this theme is omnipresent in the anime’s conflict: Light Yagami is performing ‘right’ in the world by ridding it of evil criminals but paradoxically performs ‘wrong’ in slaughtering human beings. Moral skepticism is the concept that humans do not, and can not, have knowledge of morality (Sinnot-Armstrong, 2006). ![]() ![]() As a whole, Death Note portrays the notions of skepticism and ambiguity in human morality. Taking the concept of acting as God, the anime questions morality and projects upon the psychology of society. Tetsuro Araki’s anime, Death Note, (adapted from Tsugumi Ohba’s manga), is a thriller that dives into the human psyche and blurs boundaries between right and wrong, good and evil. ![]() ![]() ![]() TWD is a franchise filled with inconsistencies and fallacies, but that one might be too far. If viewers take Dead in the Water as canon, it looks like the apocalypse happened and everyone in the world automatically became infected. While all of that worked in theory and gave fans another glimpse of terrified characters discovering zombies, it also raised a big question: How did the submarine become infected with the zombie-making virus in the first place? That limited crew raised the sub to the surface and swam ashore. and one by one, the 155-man crew died and turned until there were only eight survivors left. Shortly after, the dead sailor turned into a walker. The plot was pretty simple: one of the sailors onboard died of appendicitis because the sub lost contact with command and could not request a medical evacuation. Featuring Weapons Officer Jason Riley (who was previously seen as Teddy's lieutenant in Season 6 of Fear), the webisode was a classic example of trapping a protagonist in a situation with little hope of escaping a monster. ![]() Dead in the Water centered on the submarine's crew on the eve of the apocalypse. ![]() ![]() The USS Pennsylvania and its nuclear missiles would be the major plot point for Fear's Season 6B and 7. ![]() ![]() ![]() Even the brothers’ staunchest supporters begin to have their doubts. We follow Cushla Lavery, a young RC schoolteacher, who doesn’t always follow the route prescribed for her, trespassing (as the title suggests) into a married relationship and, separately but perhaps relatedly, into the family life of one of her students. At its heart, this is a personal, character driven work. Kennedy shows the situation with nuance, including a class element that adds another layer to the dynamic. Many of us viewing the Troubles from the outside, at a remove of time and distance, might see both sides as rather unsympathetic. Set in a small town outside Belfast at the height of the Troubles, we see a mixed community coming to terms with increasing sectarianism.
